Runway Friction Survey Reporting

According to Federal Aviation Administration, “visual evaluations of pavement friction are not reliable” and require airports undertake regularly scheduled friction testing prior to and after runway maintenance. Friction survey reporting is required in qualifying asphalt rejuvenator and sealer products, and is required before and after rubber removal. Over time, the skid-resistance of runway pavement deteriorates due to weathering, usage, aging and contaminants. Regular friction survey reporting should be done on a regular basis.

NAC can conduct friction survey reporting for your airport with the FAA-approved NAC Dynamic Friction Tester (DFT) to ensure that you are in compliance with the FAA AC 150/5320-12C

Wet Testing

Average Mu values on the wet runway pavement surface less than the Maintenance Planning Friction Level (MPL) create conditions not acceptable for safe operations per FAA AC 150/5320-12C. Wet testing is performed on your airport runway using NAC's Dynamic Friction Tester (DFT). Each friction survey report includes a full graphical analysis.

Maintenance

Friction survey reporting for pavement maintenance is conducted with NAC's Dynamic Friction Tester (DFT) over three product test strips at both speed of 40 MPH & 60 MPH. A full graphical analysis will be provided at the time of each test completion reporting the average friction values. Testing is required to prevent product application when test surfaces are less than the Maintenance Planning Friction Level (MPL) as reference by Federal Aviation guidelines for performance.
