Team NAC eagerly departed for the 45th annual Reno Air Races in Nevada on September 6th. With so much to do in a short amount of time, Team Members kept cool heads despite some very unusual circumstances that presented themselves.

Discovery Channel.JPG Two weeks prior to the races, withdrawal of the maintenance Crew Chief left the Team in a scramble to find a qualified mechanic to oversee the assembly and ground support of the Team aircraft, #1 “Invictus”. Fortunately, Team Miss USA, (also from Florida), were able to assist and readied the aircraft. During the race week, the Team of Miss USA remained exceptionally gracious and enjoyable to be amongst. “Invictus” was assembled with time to spare and breezed through the rigorous inspection process, mandated by the Reno Air Race Association.

Inspection by RARA.JPGAnother enormous setback occurred at the onset of race week: a fatal crash tragically claimed the life fellow Formula 1 air race pilot. She was a friend of the Team NAC pilot; understandably, this accident was tremendously unnerving and the pilot chose not to race Formula 1 this season. Without the race-qualified pilot, Team NAC was not able to fulfill the goal to race.

Rather than disassemble “Invictus” and head back to Florida, President Tim Neubert opted to stay in Reno for the duration of the race week, personally meeting new friends and gaining exposure for the sponsors, team and company. The decision to stay enabled many excellent opportunities. Neubert Aero Corp. performed runway surface assessment friction tests on both runways at the Reno Stead Airport. “Invictus” was a media darling - the most photographed of all Formula 1 aircraft. Her good looks even landed a spot in an upcoming Discovery Channel production called “Faster Than Fast”, a documentary about the sport of air racing. Rounding out the progressive week, Tim Neubert served as the Race Announcer, lending essential support to the Formula 1 class.

Mr. Neubert also was asked by F1 Class President to provide training to military and airport aircraft rescue & fire fighting (ARFF) personal on proper emergency pilot egress training utilizing “Invictus” as a demonstration platform.

Invictus @ Reno.JPG“Invictus” may not have raced this year but the event was considered successful. In accordance with established core corporate values, Team NAC’s intrepidity turned all the encumbrances to a positive. Building relationships within the Formula 1 arena as well as interacting with Race attendees and media personnel showcased NAC’s positive, tenacious ethic in all endeavors.
